From the Principal - Term 1, Week 8
Dear Parents and Carers.
It was wonderful to see so many families supporting our school colour run last Friday. This event was our first community fundraising event post covid and it was amazing to spend the afternoon with so many people. The atmosphere was electric and the laughter, squeals of excitement and the smiling faces was just the lift the community needed. The weather was perfect and the support provided by the wonderful volunteers and the Narre Warren CFA made the event the success that it was. Due to the generosity of Events by Estela, All-make Automotive, G Rail Solutions and all our families, we raised over $3000 that will be put towards replacing the wooden playground and purchasing some outdoor furniture. We look forward to our next fundraising initiative, The Easter Raffle.

Religious Education- Term 1, Week 8
We all make mistakes. It is often said, yet very rarely acknowledged in a meaningful way. That is very true in our current society that is often just waiting for someone to err so that they can jump all over it, and bring someone down. Newspapers recipe to selling is publishing 70% bad news. There have been efforts from media companies to sell good news, but the facts suggest they fail. So why are we drawn to bad news?
Perhaps is it about allowing ourselves to judge others. To look beyond our own failings and see the failings in others. I mean, I take great comfort in seeing a Golf Professional on the tour hitting a ball into the trees, or missing a short putt. Why? Possibly because it makes my own inadequecies on the golf course feel normal. The reality is though, that fleeting feeling does not help my golf game. The only assistance required there is a good coach and some purposeful practice, and self reflection on the positives and areas for improvment.
So what has this got to do with Lent, Jesus and Reconciliation? A great deal actually.
Lent is a period of self reflection, where we are challenged to look within our own life and see the opportunities for growth. We need to seek out a coach, which for many Catholics, a Priest can play, where they challenge us to look deeply at our own failings, reflect on the opportunities and then give us another chance. Jesus time is the desert is often spoken about in the notion of fasting and temptation, yet it is also a great model of reflection. In this fast paced world, how often do we take the time to really find quiet time to sit and reflect, or be present with the moment. The simple answer is we are too busy, yet we all have our own demands and if we do not look after ourselves, can we really look after those we love?
I know I made a change in this space a few years ago and now walk for 20 minutes in the morning while the kids are asleep. It has helped enormously to create a space for reflection and to re-centre. (I still struggle with a 5:40 alarm though) It is also a space that I put myself in prayer, to be thankful for what I have and seek clarity in what is happening. Some people meditate, some listen to music, many Catholics use prayer; whatever it is it needs to work for you.
At one of the Sacramental workshops, a brave mum shared that she came to hopefully allow her child to learn about Reconciliation from me as a presenter, as he wasn't listening to her. As parents, and teachers, we all have that feeling at times. I hope that child did learn something from me, but I guarantee he learns more from the mum. While that child may not seem to be listening, there is no doubt they are learning from what we do.
So maybe Lent is an opportunity for our children to learn from us, people who seek to judge others less, celebrate what we have and reflect on how we can continue to grow ourselves.
Sacramental Program- Reconciliation
We wish all of our students completing the Sacrament of Reconciliation all the very best. It is a big step and very couragous to admit our mistakes, however it also allows us to become stronger people and closer to God.

Whole School Expectations
Each year, our Year 6 students are invited to create a poster promoting our four School Wide Expectations. The Year 6 students shortlisted 9 posters which students from Foundation - Year 6 had the opportunity to vote for. Students were asked to vote for the poster they believe best represented our School Wide Expectations.
Thank you to all of our Year 6 students who took the time to create a School Wide Expectations poster.
Congratulations to Maya from 6A who created the poster chosen by the school community to be used for our 2023 SWE poster. Maya's poster will be used throughtout the school, in our newsletter and on our website promoting our four School Wide Expectatations.

Child Safe Standards
The Child Safe Standards aim to protect children and young people, by requiring organisations to put policies, procedures and processes in place to prevent and respond to abuse. They aim to make keeping children and young people safe a key focus of organisations in Victoria.

- Prevent child abuse
- Ensure effective processes are in place to respond to and report allegations of child abuse
- Encourage children to ‘have a say’, especially on issues that are important to them or about decisions that affect their lives.
Child Safe Standard 1 - Relevant entities establish a culturally safe environment in which the diverse and unique identities and experiences of Aboriginal children and young people are respected and valued.
Child Safe Standard 2 - Child safety and wellbeing is embedded in organisational leadership, governance and culture.
Child Safe Standard 3 - Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously.
Child Safe Standard 4 - Families and communities are informed, and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
Child Safe Standard 5 - Equity is upheld and diverse needs respected in policy and practice.
Child Safe Standard 6 - People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.
Child Safe Standard 7 - Processes for complaints and concerns are child focused.
Child Safe Standard 8 - Staff and volunteers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and awareness to keep children and young people safe through ongoing education and training.
Child Safe Standard 9 - Physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing while minimising the opportunity for children and young people to be harmed.

Child Safe Standard 11 - Policies and procedures document how the relevant entity is safe for children and young people.

SHEPHERD’S TABLE: Would you like to make a difference to those in need?
Information session Sunday 26 March after 11am Mass
Shepherd’s Table has now been serving meals for more than 2 years. We have been successful because of the financial support we have received from parish members, and with our volunteers, who prepare the meals every first and third Saturday of the month.
Currently we have a loyal group of regular volunteers who act as leaders, cooks or assistants on the day, but we need more people to become involved. You can support us in our ministry by joining our volunteer group. Your commitment depends on you and the time you have available to assist us.
On 26th March following the 11am Mass we are having an information session during which you can ask questions; find out what we do and how we do it; and what would be expected of you if you were to become a volunteer. A cuppa and food will be provided. We would love to meet anyone interested in finding out more about Shepherd’s Table.
Please give it some thought. We would love to see you on the 26 March after 11am Mass.
Enquiries: Max 0407 788 845 or Lynn 0409 356 630.

ART AND LITERACY COMPETITION Trinity participates in the promotion of Literacy and Art links. Last year we had a student win the Balnaves Foundation Literary Award for Poetry from entries all around Australia, we also had other winners in this national competition in both the Arts category and the Literacy category. Students are able to upload both their artwork and any poems or stories they may have written. Competition closes on the 30th of September. Oz Kids was initiated in the early 90's by The Australian Children's Literary Board, a Not-For-Profit Organisation primarily focused on the literary needs of our young children. Oz Kids is a magazine which we distribute on a national basis and publish online through this website. Its purpose is to promote and support children's literary and artistic talents and to provide a vehicle for children to appreciate and develop their skills and encourage them to continue in the arts, especially when they see their work published. |
Harmony Day 2023
Harmony Day will be celebrated by our school on Tuesday the 21st of March.
Students can wear clothes that represent their cultural heritage or is colours that represent their cultural background. If they do not have these, they can wear something orange, or even a dash of orange, which represents the colour of diversity.
Our Catholic School celebrates people of different faiths and backgrounds. All are welcome and we want to make this an inclusive environment.
Unfortunately, racism still occurs and we all need to stand together and say it is not alright. I witnessed it happen to a friend on the weekend, and when I said how shocked I was, she told me how often it happens to her.
Our Social Justice Leaders created this video to share their thoughts on Harmony Day. I have attatches a link to the Government site with great information. On the day, we will create a video titled: At our School, everyone belongs because....
