2023 Term 2 Week 2
From the Principal - Term 2, Week 2
Welcome to Term 2. I hope you had a safe and restful Easter break with your family and friends.
This term is a shorter term, being only 9 weeks and will fly by with so many extra-curricular events planned for many of the students. I encourage you to keep an eye out on the school calendar in PAM for these events as well as the newsletter.
The first of these extra-curricular events was the Year 4 Camp to Oasis Christian Camp in Mt Evelyn which took place on Monday and Tuesday this week. It was a privilege to take the students away on their first camp experience and they are to be commended for the resilience they displayed, their enthusiasm, and their excellent behaviour. They certainly did Trinity proud. I am extremely grateful to all families for entrusting their child’s care to the school and allowing them to experience such a wonderful opportunity with their peers. Whilst on camp the students participated in a range of activities including candle making, flying fox, archery, low ropes course and a visit to the reptile house. A highlight for many was making their own choc top ice-creams for dessert and spending time in their cabins with their friends. Camps just don’t happen on their own. A lot of time and effort goes into the planning and preparation and staff are on deck pretty much 24/7. A huge thank you to Mrs Rogers, Mrs Varsamis, Miss Noy, Mrs Aguilera-McGrath, Mr Dannaoui, Mr Watty and Mrs Romalie for generously giving up their time to support the children and to all the staff back at school who covered the staff in their absence.
Last Wednesday we held a valuable Learning Adjustment Day at Trinity with three of our neighbouring schools. This professional learning day focussed on understanding the importance of developing positive relationships with our students and understanding how all behaviour is a form of communication that is trying to meet a need. The staff had the opportunity to attend different workshops throughout the day. The workshops offered were:
- MaryEllen Davis (Psychologist) - Managing Our Own Behaviour in a Child’s World
- Sarah Fiddes and Lauren Bourke (Psychologist, DOSCEL) - Behaviour, De-escalation and Keeping Safe.
- Peta Murray (Education Consultant, DOSCEL) - Understanding our role in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the classroom.
- Eliza Costigan (Education Consultant, DOSCEL) - Understanding our role in supporting EAL students in the classroom.
- Samantha Salaoutis (Speech Pathologist, Versa Learn) - Supporting Students with Developmental Language Disorder and Dyslexia in the Classroom.
- Julie Wordsworth (Psychologist, Futures in Mind) - Childhood Trauma.
- Dr Amanda Smart (Psychologist, Futures in Mind) - Neurodiversity in the classroom.
- Michelle MacPherson (Psychologist, Futures in Mind) - School teachers will change the world!
- Jade Houstan (OT, Futures in Mind) - Understanding sensory processing in the classroom and how Occupational Therapy can assist.
- Dr Martina Waring (Clinical Psychologist, Futures in Mind)- Understanding how to support children with ADHD and Pathological Avoidance presentations.
We look forward to sharing what we have learnt with each other and actioning some of our newfound knowledge.
Ovarian Cancer Awareness Day – Monday 8th May – Wear a white shirt/top to school.
World Ovarian Cancer Day is one of the most significant days in the year to make some noise about ovarian cancer and the need for greater research funding. This day is shared with the #WhiteShirtCampaign White Shirt Day – a moment to wear a white shirt and call for action. The White Shirt Campaign has contributed more than $15 million to research that is tackling early detection and improving treatments - research that will save lives. Today, a woman or girl diagnosed with ovarian cancer faces a 49% chance of surviving five years. The average five-year survival rate for all cancers nationwide is over 70%. It is one of the most lethal cancers affecting women. On Monday 8th May, the staff and students are invited to wear a white shirt/ top to school in return for a gold coin donation being made to the ovarian cancer fund. This money will then be used for lifesaving research that will support women like our very own Mrs Schinck who has been fighting ovarian cancer for the past year.
School Uniform
Term 2 and 3 requires the students to wear their winter uniform. Boys may wear either blue pants or shorts and the yellow long/short sleeve school t-shirt with navy socks and black shoes. Girls may wear the same as the boys or the yellow t-shirt and school winter dress with navy stocking or socks. Sports socks and coloured runners/sport shoes are only to be worn on your child’s sports days. Earrings must also be a stud or sleeper. We have noticed some fashion earrings being worn to school. This is not part of the uniform code and is not safe either. I am seeking the support of all parents to help us ensure the correct uniform is worn with pride.

Religious Education- Term 2, Week 2
Dear Families,
Sacraments are an important part of the Catholic faith. They are a way in which we nurture the faith of our students and come together to celebrate as a school and parish community.
During our Sacramental Church unit, students will be exploring the celebrations of the church, including the sacraments of initiation and healing that we participate in during different stages of our lives. They will gain knowledge of the history, the prayers, the symbols and the significance of each Sacrament. Although this education is essential to building students' understanding of traditions of the church, we must remember that the family is where faith is learned and lived.
Parents, as the first educators of their children, share the Catholic faith and the experiences of belonging to the Church. The Sacramental Program invites families to connect with Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, and share your own faith with your children. In the busyness of our lives it is an incredibly valuable opportunity for parents to spark conversations with their children around faith and be welcomed into the parish community.
The Sacraments are an invitation back to the faith for all of us. I know for myself, leading workshops and attending celebration masses has been a formative experience, the opportunity to observe beautiful moments shared between parent and child that are joyful, honest, and vulnerable. So whether you’re a regular church goer or your faith has waned, take this invitation to engage in this shared experience in which we come together to celebrate the sacraments as a parish community.
For more information please contact me at the school (emily.rogers@trinitynarre.catholic.edu.au)

ARTSONIA Artsonia is the world’s largest online student art museum. and showcases artwork from thousands of schools around the world. Students work is uploaded to Artsonia (an online international gallery). Trinity’s gallery has over 35,000 piece of artwork in its Gallery . You will receive an email asking for permission for your child to be part of the Trinity Art community, I ask that you give permission through this email. Its goals are to develop students’ pride and self-esteem, increase their multicultural understanding through art and involve parents and relatives in students’ education and accomplishments. Your child or I upload their child’s artwork onto the website. Artsonia is a unique, safe, and educational opportunity for the students. You or others in your family can comment on your child’s artwork: One of the most exciting features about being published on Artsonia’s Art Museum is that friends and family from anywhere in the world can leave a nice comment for the artist and become a fan club member of the artist. If you wish to have a look at what Trinity’s Artsonia website looks like, here is the link |
ART AND LITERACY COMPETITION Trinity participates in the promotion of Literacy and Art links. Last year we had a student win the Balnaves Foundation Literary Award for Poetry from entries all around Australia, we also had other winners in this national competition in both the Arts category and the Literacy category. Students are able to upload both their artwork and any poems or stories they may have written. Competition closes on the 30th of September. Oz Kids was initiated in the early 90's by The Australian Children's Literary Board, a Not-For-Profit Organisation primarily focused on the literary needs of our young children. Oz Kids is a magazine which we distribute on a national basis and publish online through this website. Its purpose is to promote and support children's literary and artistic talents and to provide a vehicle for children to appreciate and develop their skills and encourage them to continue in the arts, especially when they see their work published. |

Trinity Car Park Etiquette
- For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
- Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
- The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.
- The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.
- There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
- THE GATES CLOSE AT 8.50am. They will RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. The gates close for the day at 3:30pm. Occasionally they might reopen slightly later due to school activities.
- The Staff Car Park is for STAFF PARKING ONLY. Please do not use it as a drop off/pick up for students.
Thank you for your patience and consideration of others
