2024 Term 2 Week 5
From the Principal - Term 2, Week 5
Dear Families
I hope you all enjoyed a special day on Sunday with your loved ones. It was heartwarming to hear all the Mother’s Day stories on Monday as the students arrived at school. It’s days like these that remind us about the importance of family and making the time to come together.
Last Wednesday and Friday we celebrated and gave thanks to all those who take on a mothering role in the lives of our students. It was wonderful to see so many mothers, carers, grandparents, aunties and special friends at our Mother’s Day breakfasts. A huge thank you to the wonderful dads and staff who cooked and served breakfast to over 600 people. Thank you to the staff who set up and packed up on both days and to Mayrena, from Melbourne Events Hire & More Co and Jess, from Vinyl Me Some More, for the beautiful Mother’s Day sign. Without the continued support of our community, days like these would not be possible.
Thank you also to the wonderful parents who gave up their day to assist with the Mother’s Day stall. I hope everyone enjoyed the little gifts their children selected for them.
Staffing Updates
Last Wednesday families received correspondence from the Director of Catholic Education, Mr Paul Velten, informing them that I have been appointed as the Foundation Principal of St Josephine Bakhita in Clyde North. This is a new school that will open in 2025 but requires me to take up the position at the start of next term to set up the school.
Whilst I am looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead, it is with a heavy heart that I will leave Trinity. I have loved being a part of our wonderful community for the past 20 years and will greatly miss my involvement with the school, particularly the amazing children in our care.
The decision to leave Trinity was not an easy one, and it would not have been possible if we did not have such an outstanding Deputy Principal here in Ged Shelton, who I believe will be very successful as the Acting Principal at Trinity over the next six months. Ged will be wonderfully supported by the highly committed staff who have worked hard to develop a sustainable culture at Trinity and who go above and beyond for the students in their care.
Ged will continue to ensure that Trinity remains inclusive and successful for all students, and I hope that families will continue to support her, and all the staff, throughout the remainder of 2024.
The role of Acting Deputy will be announced in the coming weeks once an internal interview process is completed. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to come, and speak to Ged or myself.
Catholic Education Week
Trinity, along with the 42 other Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sale, will celebrate Catholic Education Week from 17 to 24 May. The theme for this year’s celebrations is “See I am making all things new” – Revelation 21:5
As Catholic schools, we are called to do more than just pass on the faith: we are invited to translate our faith into deeds, so we are truly living God’s Word.
“See I am making all things new” serves as an invitation to follow the example of Jesus by building an optimistic and hope filled world and serving those in our communities in many ways. At Trinity the students will take the time to reflect on why they love being a part of a Catholic school and how they can serve those within our community. The staff at Trinity will gather with the Parish Team and staff from Don Bosco and Mary MacKillop Primary Schools down at OLHC Parish on Wednesday 22nd May. This special occasion will highlight our commitment to Catholic Education and our vocation to the work and mission of Jesus.
Catholic Education Week is an opportunity for all Catholic schools to celebrate our distinctive mission and share features that are special about our schools. The following two video highlight the mission of our Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sale.

We will also celebrate Catholic Education week with a special whole school Mass on Friday 24th May in the school hall. This Mass will also acknowledge and celebrate Trinity Feast Day. All families are warmly invited to celebrate with us on the day.
Trinity Feast Day - 24th May
Next Friday, 24th May, we will celebrate Trinity Feast Day with a special whole school Mass at 9am in the hall. All families are warmly invited to join us. The students will then have the opportunity to reflect on why Trinity is a great place to learn and grow. A shared lunch (sausage sizzle and icy poles) will be supplied. Please ensure permission slips have been returned.
On Saturday 25th May we will celebrate Trinity Feast Day with the Parish community. All families are invited to come and join in the liturgical celebration. Thank you to Emily Rogers for her preparation for Trinity Feast Day.
THE TRINITY
God the Father
Who created the world and everything in it. Jesus taught us to call him our “Father”, when we pray. He loves us so much that he sent his Son Jesus to be our Saviour.
God the Son
Jesus was God made man, who was born as a human baby in Bethlehem. He came to teach and show us how to live as God’s children. He died on the cross and rose from the dead so that all who follow him could share his eternal life.
God the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is our invisible friend, the unseen person of God who lives with us and in us, helping us to live and love God’s children.
Staff Car Park
Over the past two weeks we have seen an increase in the number of parents using the staff car park to drop off their children. The staff car park is for staff only. Parents may enter the car park if they are dropping off their children at Before School Care, if it is before 8am. After 8am, I ask that parents please park out on the street to allow staff to park in the car park when they arrive at school. I thank parents for their understanding in this matter.
PSG Meetings
Parent Support Group meetings will conclude this week. Thank you to Mrs Shelton and Mrs Burke for facilitating the meetings and to the staff for their preparation for the conversations.
2025 Foundation (Prep) Enrolments
Enrolments continue to take place for 2025 and we are nearing our capacity. If you have a child coming in 2025, or know of someone else who does, please contact the office for further details ASAP. Enrolment forms can be downloaded from the Trinity School Website.
NCCD - Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
What is the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data? Schools must now complete the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) every year, in August. It counts the number of students who receive additional adjustments or ‘help” at school so that all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed.
The NCCD helps governments plan for the needs of students with either a diagnosed or imputed disability and will ensure consistency across the country, from state to state and from sector to sector.
To count a student in the NCCD, schools must consider the following:
Does the student require adjustments to be made so that they can access the curriculum on the same basis as their peers?
Does the student have a disability according to the Disability Discrimination Act?
Have the student’s parents or caregivers been consulted with, in regard to these adjustments?
Is there clear evidence of the above to support the inclusion of the student in the NCCD?
Parental Consent - Changes were made to the law (Australian Education Act 2013 and Australian Education Regulation Act 2013) which mean that schools do not need to ask for parental consent in order to count a student. Rather, ongoing conversations between the school and family will have occurred prior to the decision being made each year. School’s are required to document the adjustments being made for all students. Evidence is collected in many different ways. Such possibilities include:
School work samples, Testing and Assessments, Reporting, Intervention Programs, Meetings - Formal and Informal, Personalised Learning Plans and Professionals working within the school.
If you have nay questions relating to the NCCD, please speak to Ged or myself.

Religious Education - Term 2, Week 5
Dear Families,
Catholic Education Week and Trinity Feast Day
Trinity, along with the 42 other Catholic schools in the Diocese of Sale, will celebrate Catholic Education Week from 17 to 24 May. The theme for this year’s celebrations is “See I am making all things new” – Revelation 21:5.
This year, our Trinity Feast Day falls within this timeframe; what a wonderful time to celebrate Trinity! We will have our Trinity Feast Day Whole School Mass on Friday 24th of May where we will reflect on what makes Trinity an amazing place to 'Grow Together in Faith, Hope and Love,' as well as celebrating the joy of learning and working together in Catholic Schools. A big thank-you to all our parent helpers who have volunteered their time to prepare our sausage sizzle lunch for our students!
In the spirit of building partnerships between parish and school, we will be celebrating our Parish Family Mass on Saturday the 25th May at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish - 6pm. Our student volunteers are excitedly preparing for their role in the mass this week. We cannot wait to see everyone there! A reminder to families who are planning on attending to encourage your child to wear their school uniform on the evening.
Inquiry in Religious Education
Our students are in the middle of our Sacramental Church unit. As part of inquiry in Religious Education our students are exploring how we can make present the saving ministry of Jesus. They have been working in small groups to consider ways we can be part of the mission of the Church. They have come up with amazing ideas such as an Environment Rubbish Club, donating to Shepherd's Table or St Vincent De Paul, or bringing resources for Backpacks4KidsVic.
The grade three students worked alongside our Social Justice leaders to create posters to promote the cause within the Joyce Building which they plan on sharing in the coming weeks. Pictured below is some of our posters.

ST MARGARET'S NETBALL CHALLENGE
On Wednesday 1st and Thursday 2nd May, selected students from years 5 and 6 represented Trinity and participated in the annual St Margaret's Netball Challenge against schools from our area. The students played between 6-8 netball games in a round robin competition. Although our four teams didn't make it to the finals, it was great to see their netball and teamwork skills improve with each new game they played.
Thanks to Mrs Parker for assisting with training and coaching two of the teams. Thank you also to our parents for coming to watch and support the students.

Trinity Car Park Etiquette
- For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
- Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
- The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.
- The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.
- There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
- THE GATES CLOSE AT 8.50am. They will RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. The gates close for the day at 3:30pm. Occasionally they might reopen slightly later due to school activities.
- The Staff Car Park is for STAFF PARKING ONLY. Please do not use it as a drop off/pick up for students.
Thank you for your patience and consideration of others
