From the Principal - Week 7, Term 4
Dear Parents,
Where has the year gone! It only seemed like Christmas a few months ago and now it is only just over a month away. As a staff whilst we are still concentrating on this year, we also have started planning for 2023. In the same way your children will also be beginning to think about 2023 and what it may look like for them. As the important adults in their lives, we need to be positive with our children about the changes that are coming up, as they take their cues from us. Our attitude and behaviour influence how they will respond. The other important aspect that we are reinforcing with the children here at school is that whilst 2023 is coming, it is not here yet, and it is essential that they continue to finish this year off well.
The staff at Trinity will also be starting to transition the students to the following year level by visiting the classroom spaces and talking to the students and teachers about what they enjoy about their grade. The students will have the opportunity to meet their 2023 teacher and peers on Friday 9th December from 11.30 -1pm.
2023 Foundation Orientation
Today we held our second orientation session for our 2023 Foundation students. It was wonderful to see how excited they all were and they are to be commended on the way they embraced the experience. Next Thursday will be their final session for the year.
The Foundation teachers for 2023 will be Miss Shannon Crispe, Miss Rebecca Loomes and Ms Amy Gullifer/Miss Casey Watson. The students will meet their teacher and peers next week.
Cancer Awareness Fundraising Day
Last Wednesday the school community raised an amazing $1381.45 for the Cancer Council in support and recognition of Mrs Schinck who is undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer. It was a wonderful day of awareness and support. A big thank you to all families for their generous donations.
2024 Foundation (Prep) Enrolments
We have now begun the process of enrolling 2024 Foundation students. If you have a child coming in 2024, or know of someone else who does, please contact the office for an enrolment form or it can be downloaded off the website. It is important that all existing families enrol their child by the end of November so we can guarantee your child a place.
Staffing Updates
Congratulations to Miss Miranda Ryan and Mrs Kelly Occhietti who are about to complete their teaching degrees and have recently been appointed to their first teaching positions for 2023. Mrs Occhietti will be teaching Food Technology at Berwick Secondary College and Miss Ryan will be teaching at St Mark’s in Dingley. We wish them all the very best and thank them for their contributions over the years at Trinity.
Emergency Evacuation Drill
Yesterday we held a practice lockdown drill as part of our Emergency Management Plan. The school was safely locked down and all staff, students and visitors were accounted. Each term the school practices a different emergency drill to ensure we are prepared should the need ever arise.
Assessment and Reporting
It is that time of the year when the teachers begin to assess the skills and knowledge attained by the students throughout the year. Over the past and coming weeks the students will complete a range of different Progressive Achievement Tests (PAT) in Maths and Reading and BAS Reading tests. These assessments are completed to track student achievement over time and provide valuable information to schools for future teaching and learning focuses. Teachers will contact families should there be any new concerns that arise from the data.
On Friday 28th November, staff will be using the school closure day to moderate student assessment pieces and begin report writing. School Reports will be made available for families on Wednesday 14th December.
St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal
The Trinity school community will once again team up with St Vincent de Paul to provide Christmas hampers and gifts to those in need within our parish community. From Tuesday 29th November we will be collecting Christmas foods and items (A list will be sent home) which can be placed in the baskets in the school atrium. For further information please contact Mr Sharp.
End of Year Mass
Our End of Year Mass will be held on Friday 16th December at 9am in the School Hall. Parents are warmly invited to join in the celebration.
End of Year Assembly
The final school assembly will be held on Friday the 9th December at 1.30pm. This will be an opportunity to farewell any leaving staff. Families are encouraged to attend.
Christmas Carols
On Friday 16th December we will hold be celebrating Christmas will carols in the hall (or soccer pitch) from 1.50pm. Families are most welcome to attend. The children will be allowed to wear Christmas clothes and accessories on the day.

Religious Education- Week 7, Term 4
In the coming weeks we embark on the season of Advent. Advent is a season of waiting. Waiting for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Waiting is something that has continuously been eroded out of our social fabric. This has not been a purposeful attack, or something deliberately intended, it is just that technology advances has created a more immediate world.
I went away to Phillip Island on the weekend with my family. We had a bit of downtime and my young child who is two and a half was absolutely mortified, (crying) that he could not play Paw Patrol on demand. In fact, the only option really was ABC Kids, and if he didn't like that show, he had to wait until the next show to come on. Now that is not his fault, some may say it is parenting, that's fine, but in reality it is just an example of where our world is now through technological advances, which then creates expectations that we expect things now.
Waiting is actually a great period. It is the time to dream. What is under that tree? What will the party be like? How will the game go? What will 2023 have in store for me? Waiting can create excitement for an event, that at times can often be greater than the event itself. This is why Gyms tend to make a lot of money around the new year period. The dream can be better than the reality.
Waiting requires delayed gratification, and it is something that it critical to teach to children.....I clearly have some work to go with my young boy.
In the Catholic Church, we wait in anticipation and reflection. To reflect on how our year has been. What are we proud of? What are our opportunties to improve? It is also an opportunity to wonder what role will God play in our own lives. There is a real acceptance from students to wonder about Jesus, to reflect on the lessons He gave. As time goes on, the lessons Jesus gave become even more relateable, but maybe we move away from the call. Even those who are not from a religious background have a opportunity to reflect on how we can be more respectful, compassionate and show more love to those around us.
So this Advent, as we wait, we are reminded that we are constantly invited to reflect of the role of God in our own lives, and that waiting is often the best part of it all!

SCHOOL TRANSITIONS
Whether it is starting school for the first time, moving up to a higher grade or embarking on a journey through secondary school, there is no doubt that any school transition is a very exciting time for children and parents. It means that the children are growing up!
However, for many it may also be a very anxious and stressful time for both parents and children. Parents need to be aware of their child’s feelings during any school transition and minimise anxiety so the process is an enjoyable experience for all. It is important for children to attend transition or orientation programs offered by schools. Familiarisation is often key to reducing stress levels. It is also important for parents to talk to their children about their expectations and being more responsible for their own needs.

Level 3 Excursion to Scienceworks
On Tuesday the 8th of November the Grade 3s went to ScienceWorks for an Excursion. We went there to talk and learn about the Universe. We also learnt about the Sun, Moon and Earth. We also learnt about the Red Moon on the 8th of November Tuesday.
We went to the Planetarium to learn about how the seasons work.We also learnt about the tilt in the earth that makes Summer,Winter, Autumn and Spring. When we are standing up we are actually tilting to the left but we can’t feel it and when we tilt our self we are standing up straight.
We also went to the sports exhibition and raced our friends, had the most annoying photo ever and raced Cathy Freeman to see how fast she went in the race and 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics Gold Medal. There was also a rock climbing wall which people jumped off and people jumped off the top.We played on the playground and it was busy not gonna lie it was.We did the exercise things and I played A game called Doors.
Thanks for listening to our story. You should go to ScienceWorks as a family one day too!
We took some photos that are on the grade 3s Seesaw accounts.

Trinity Fundraising
Fundraising in 2023
Next year we will be re-introducing fundraising initiatives as a way of bringing much needed funds back into the school to begin developing our school grounds and purchasing new equipment for the classroom. The fundraising committee are already busy planning some events such as a Colour Fun Run, Hot Cross Bun and Cookie Drive, Disco, Themed Days, just to name a few. More details will come out next year about each event. We will also be tapping into some small local businesses throughout the year who will support the school through their business. The first of these is Gabbie from Milkwick candles. These candles will make some great Christmas presents and support the school in beginning their fundraising journey.
New members are most welcome!
CHILD SAFE STANDARDS WORKING WITH CHILDREN
Trinity has zero tolerance towards child abuse and is therefore committed to complying with the Ministerial Order No. 1359 – Implementing the Child Safe Standards – Managing the Risk of Child Abuse in Schools and School Boarding Premises. All parents/guardians wishing to help in the classroom, canteen or attend excursions MUST have completed the PARENT HELPER WORKSHOP and hold a current WORKING WITH CHILDREN CARD.
Further details are available from the school office or the Justice Department website. All parent/guardian helpers must sign in at the office before proceeding to the classrooms. Your current Working with Children card must be displayed at all times when working in the classrooms and attending excursions.
A reminder to all Parents/Carers, supervision by School Staff begins at 8.30am before school and after school only at the drop off area until 3.30pm.
Please observe and supervise your children as they play on the equipment. Thank you for your co-operation.
ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL
In the case of illness/absence please call the school office by 8.30am or login to PAM to send a notification no later than 9.00am on the day of absence.
An SMS will be sent (daily) to Parents after 9.30am for any unexplained student absences.
If no contact can be made or no absence is reported the school may phone emergency contacts to ensure student safety.
If you are going away on holidays you must advise in writing to the Principal BEFORE you leave.
Thank you.
Trinity Car Park Etiquette
- For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
- Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
- The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up Zone ONLY.
- The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of the pick-up queue.
- There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
- THE GATES CLOSE AT 8.50am. They will RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm. The gates close for the day at 3:30pm. Occasionally they might reopen slightly later due to school activities.
- The Staff Car Park is for STAFF PARKING ONLY. Please do not use it as a drop off/pick up for students.
Thank you for your patience and consideration of others
